The MGA With An Attitude
RETAINER BRACKET for Folded Down Top Frame - TT-202
It should be understood that the MGA roadster cars (and 1500 Coupe) have the spare tire stowed in the boot but protruding forward through the aperature in the rear bulkhead into the cockpit area. --- The folded down convertible top then sits on top of the spare tire (cover) for support, securing it well back in the space under the rear body tonneau. If the spare tire is not in the boot, or it is not pushed forward into the cockpit area, the rag top assembly will fall lower dorww, which pushed the articulated frame legs forward into the area of the door oening, where then can subseuently impinge on and possibly damave the seat backrests.
For those who insist on not having an original size spare tire stowed in the original location, here is a solution to retention of the stowed away convertible top legs. The first example is suggested by John Milland in Hillerod, Denmark.
Next suggestion (photo at right) is from John Smith in Woodstock, ON, Canada, slightly simpler one-piece clip, bent but not welded.
And the next one is from Horst Wendling in Leverkusen, NRW, Germany who writes:
"I have laser cut brackets in Stainless steel for sale with a nice MG Logo.
Pair for 35€ plus postage at cost. Payment with paypal is OK". -- Email: horst.wendling@t-online.de -- 3-APR-2022
I guess there are lot of people who see this as a problem. I just keep the spare tire stowed where it belongs, and no need for the special brackets. -- Barney
