"This is the faulty item. There's no obvious defect and when I submerged the float in petrol there were no air bubbles escaping. So all I can assume is that the soldered joints are slightly porous".

Installed Nytophyl floats in October 2023.

The problem is bad solder joints not completely sealed.
Submerge it in water and warm it up some, and you can see where it bubbles.

More reports of the same problem from other people, not an isolated case,and the problem has been around for a while. I have officially reported the problem to Moss USA (presume same parts as Moss UK).
Suggest use of Nitrophyl plastic float,
