MGA Adoption among friends

NOTICE: We have lost all contact with the intended recipient. No more action can happen until contact may be re-established. This might ultimately require someone going to Cuba to knock on the guy's door. Do not send parts or money until further notice might be posted here if/when contact might be reestablished.

This is (was) a long story during the first several months with much discussion via the mgs e-mail list. Due to wide spread sentiment and popular demand, it is hereby undertaken (late August 2003) to assist this MGA in need by way of donation of parts. Arrangements have been made for hand delivery of these gifts by personal relay between mutual friends. If you missed the earlier discussion and would like a review of the details, just drop me a note.

I will be coordinating the collection of these parts, consolidation of the package(s), the first step of delivery, tracking, and notes on progress. Cash donations are also appreciated, and the money will be used to purchase new parts as required. Our friend Ed Kaler of "Just Brits" has offered to procure new parts at his distributor cost. No shipping expenses are anticipated, as the parts will be hand carried. Please see "What to do with Money" if would like to donate cash. Please check the "Wish List" if you would like to donate parts. All donations for the project should be sent to:

The following page(s) will present a running Wish List of parts which are needed. The object is to avoid unnecessary duplication of parts (it is only one car), although we may send a few duplicate engine gaskets. There is a "Status" column indicating the status of the part required. When the Status block is blank the part is still needed. When you wish to donate a part, contact me, and I will change the Status to "P" for Pledged, and I will enter your name for credit and tracking purposes (or any alternate ID you wish to use). When new parts are ordered from cash the Status and Thanks will change to "$". When parts are received the Status will change to "R". When parts are shipped the Status will change to "S". When parts are verified as delivered the Status will change to "D". Cash pledges and remittance and notes on the cash account will be noted on a following page.

We cannot handle any heavy or bulky parts, so forget about cylinder head, gearbox, wheels or body panels. Limit will be a few pounds for any single part and perhaps 20 pounds total for a deliverable package. We will need a few books (see end of Wish List). Otherwise most of the parts needed will be the small perishable items like gaskets, seals, locktabs, and lots of rubber parts. Standard fasteners and paint will generally not be required. The Wish List on the next page is complete to the best of my knowledge, and should only shrink not grow. If after seeing the pictures you think some additional items should be added to the list, drop me a note and we will consider it. There is some lag time in communication with the owner of the car, so it may require a little time to determine if a particular part is needed.

This is intended to be a small project among friends. I anticipate not sending everything in one package, but not more than a few separate deliveries. Whenever a reasonable amount of parts has accumulated (maybe 6 to 8 weeks) I would initiate the first delivery. Any additional delivery is intended to wait until verification of delivery of the first package. This project should have a finite life, probably no more than one year, at which time any remaining cash would be converted to new parts for a final delivery. Progress may be monitored by checking the Status and contributors notes on the Wish List. Other occasional progress notes may be posted on these web pages or posted to the mgs e-mail list. Due to geopolitical reasons, message(s) from Demis will only be posted on his request, but I would encourage him to say something publicly on some occasion.

This is a total not for profit effort, all volunteer supported with no overhead.
All money collected buys parts for the adoptee.
