MGA Guru Is GOING MOBILE
42nd MGs On The Rocks, Street, MD - (September 25, 2021)

Up early today to meet the gang from Darrell's Garage for breakfast at Village Green Family Restaurant in York, Pennsylvania at 6:45-am. A little cool, damp and overcast, but that would change. By the time breakfast was finished we had accrued 15 cars from the local area. I had time to to log them in this time. 2 Bug Eye Sprite, 1 TR3, 2 MG TD, 3 MGA, 5 MGB tourer, 1 MGB GT, 1 Morris Minor. Several miles on we picked up an Austin Healey 3000 to make 16 cars, and 40 miles on we were entering 4H Camp on Cheery Hill Road near Street, Maryland.

We arrived early, lots of cars still rolling in, so I took the opportunity to check out some vendors and found what I think is a Bantam roadster, available, in restoration, lots more work to be done, but kind of cute.

With most of the show cars in and parked it was time to start roaming for pictures. About 160 British cars here, a little shy of the 200 they were hoping for. Up front a few cars for sale, and the Premier Class line up for cars that were First In Class the year before (or maybe for a few years past). This included Darrell's Morris Minor.

A couple steps forward gets us to a pair of very nice MG ZB Magnette. A step farther to the MGA, about a dozen of them, mine being third in line in photo to left.

Back up a few steps and we have several MG Midgets and a bug eye Sprite (a few more elsewhere). Then some fin stuff, a TVR, a Sunbeam Alpine, a"modern" Mini and a vintage Mini, and the 1953 Arnolt Bristol Bertone (more about that one below). Then a Lotus or three and a couple Sunbeam Tiger.

Arnolt Bristol with a British Bristol 404 chassis, design by Franco Scaglione, spider bodied by Bertone in Italy, final trimmed by "Wacky" Arnolt in Chicago. 2-liter Straight Six dual overhead cams, and triple downdraft carbs, 144 built (including two Coupe), only 30 or so still known to exist. Lots of class championships in its day. This one is more of a casual short mileage show car these days.

Lots and lots of MGB.

One MGC and two MGB V8.

I didn't count the Triumphs, but surely not quite as many TR as MG.

A number of big Healey in the shade (a couple more hiding under the trees behind in that first picture).

At least one flat bonnet AH Sprite, and several more bug eye Sprite.

Getting hot and tired, had to screw up enough energy to hike past the Jaguar row.

Time for a break and a cool down. Had to stand in in line 45 minutes for ice cream (slow service), but worth it (very good ice cream). Had a nice chat with the lady who owns the MG Midget "survival" car. Original paint, rubbed through to undercoat in many places, very little rust (well maybe some of it has been repaired), mostly original interior and mechanical appointments.

By show's end the MGA with an attitude had picked up the long distance award, and a door prize, a $25 gift certificate from the Roadster Factory. Then the show was breaking up, everyone heading their own way out.
