The MGA With An Attitude
The OTHER Twin Cam ENGINE - TC-102A
This it "the other" twin overhead camshaft engine which was developed in a design competition against the better know one. The picture was taken in the racing department at Abingdon (cooling system not finished). This engine was an Austin design done by W. F. Appleby's design team at Longbridge. It was all new and had no parts in common with any pre-existing Austin or Morris engine. The cooling system included a large header tank mounted on the heater shelf, and the carburetors were twin dual choke Webers. This engine was run in competition with a light weight MGA in the 1955 Tourist Trophy race, after which it was never again seen in public.
