It doesn't frett on the paintwork. It has two pockets underneath that slide into the clamshells and then a strip of leather (about 5mm thick) that clips over the studs along the back wooden rail. I did have to put the longer studs in there to be able to have the saddle bag sitting on top of the tonneau cover which I leave attached all the time. When we drive we just remove the front tonneau attachments, loosely roll it up and push it behind the seats. Makes deployment when we park very quick and easy. The saddle bag, when full, is quite stiff lengthwise so carries like a long suitcase with the attached leather handle".
