CRANKSHAFT REPLACEMENT With Ghost Mains - TC-307A

This is a follow-up to the CS-220 article on a "ghost mains" crankshaft for the MGA pushrod engines. You may want to review that article as well.

On an engine with a pair of conrods between each main bearing you have a long crankshaft web between conrods. With "false" main bearing journals between the pair of conrods you have only short webs and all conrod journals now have overlap with a main journal. (Our crankshafts were made by Farndon in the UK. We have not bought any for some years now and I am not sure if they still make them)". http://www.farndon.com

"The fact that all crankshaft webs are short instead of one short and one long as with paired conrods and that all all conrod journals now overlap their diameters with a main bearing journal add tremendous rigidity to the crankshaft".

From the Marine Crankshaft site:
Our crankshafts are manufactured completely in Santa Ana, California, USA from the highest quality E4340 Aircraft quality Cr-Ni-Mo alloy billet steel.
Triple heat treated for extreme strength, toughness & durability. All crankshafts feature:

  • High speed straight line oiling system.
  • Dynamic “no holes” balance.
  • Through pin lightening holes.
  • Ion-plasma nitride for superior journal surface hardness & wear resistance.
