Picture above shows a modification to a standard MGB front shock. Picture below shows modification to a Sprite/Midget front shock. The MGA front shock mod would be similar the MGB, except the body is reversed relative to the arm.

The modification here is to drill and tap an external port either side of the internal control valve, then pipe in an external needle valve for adjustment of stiffness. I suppose they also install a heavy duty internal control valve to provide maximum stiffness, then use the external control to soften the damping by allowing some oil to bypass the internal restrictors.
